Admission at a glance
HKU admits students presenting international qualifications (A-Levels, IB, and other national school-leaving certificates) through its International/Non-JUPAS Admissions Scheme, which runs on a rolling basis with a first-round evaluation early in the cycle and a final closing date the following August. In the most recently published cycle, applications opened in September 2025, the first-round evaluation deadline was 26 November 2025 with supporting documents due 3 December 2025 and results from 8 December 2025, and the scheme closed for good on 21 August 2026 at noon Hong Kong time. Applicants pay a non-refundable HK$600 application fee. Admission is assessed on academic performance together with other factors including interview performance, personal statement and references; meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee a place. Applicants whose prior education was not conducted fully in English must submit an English test: IELTS Academic at an overall band of 6.5 or TOEFL iBT at 93, each achieved in a single sitting and within two years of the 1 September start date. Tuition is set by faculty group rather than as one university-wide figure: HK$224,000 a year for non-STEM faculties (Architecture, Arts, Business and Economics, Education, Law, Social Sciences, and the School of Future Media) and HK$249,000 a year for STEM faculties and schools (Dentistry, Engineering, Medicine, Science, Biomedical Engineering, Computing and Data Science, and Innovation), for the 2026/27 cohort. A Hong Kong student visa is applied for separately through the Immigration Department once an offer is accepted.
