Non-local Bachelor's tuition across the eight UGC-funded universities runs from about HK$175,000 a year at Lingnan to HK$260,000 a year at HKUST, with most universities charging one flat annual figure rather than varying it by faculty; HKU is the main exception, charging HK$224,000 for non-STEM faculties and HK$249,000 for STEM faculties. On top of tuition, most universities charge a one-time, non-refundable fee of HK$10,000 to HK$20,000 to secure a place once an offer is accepted, plus an application fee of roughly HK$300 to HK$600 at the point of applying. A student visa/entry permit application costs around HK$330 under the Immigration Department's general entry-permit fee category, since there is no separate published student-visa fee line. Living costs add a further HK$65,000 to HK$230,000 a year depending on housing: a university hostel room runs roughly HK$15,000 to 45,000 a year, a private one-bedroom rental HK$96,000 to 180,000 a year, and general living expenses (food, transport, personal spending) around HK$50,000 a year on top of accommodation.
