Admission at a glance

Mälardalen University admits international students through Sweden's University Admissions portal. Most programmes start once a year in late August; the international application period opens in mid October of the year before and the official deadline is in mid January, so applicants for autumn 2027 apply from mid October 2026 to mid January 2027. Non-EU/EEA applicants must pay an application fee to University Admissions, which cannot be waived. English requirements are set per programme: the Master's Programme in Intelligent Embedded Systems asks for English 6, IELTS 6.5 with no band below 5.5, or TOEFL iBT 90. Tuition per semester for non-EU/EEA students is SEK 60,000 for the bachelor's in Analytical Finance, SEK 50,000 for International Business Management and Global Strategy and Management, and SEK 67,500 for master's programmes such as Software Engineering, Financial Engineering and Sustainable Energy Systems, for example SEK 135,000 a year and SEK 270,000 in total for Intelligent Embedded Systems. The autumn semester fee is due by 3 May. The Mälardalen University scholarship programme covers 100% of tuition for a limited number of master's applicants who put MDU first and follow the normal study plan; its next application period opens in mid October 2026 for autumn 2027 programmes. It is not open to students from Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia, who are directed to the Swedish Institute Study Scholarship instead.
