Admission at a glance

Chalmers is run as a private foundation rather than a state agency, but it takes part in the same national admissions system as every public Swedish university, applying through universityadmissions.se rather than its own separate portal. Applicants who are not citizens of the EU, EEA or Switzerland use the international round for autumn entry, which opens 16 October 2026 and closes 15 January 2027, with documents and the SEK 900 application fee due 1 February 2027. Results are published 1 April 2027 for master's programmes.

Chalmers teaches almost all of its master's programs in English and describes tuition as set per program before each academic year, covering a full year of 60 credits, billed through the university's own pay portal after admission. Its general tuition fees page and its apply-for-masters page do not state a university wide minimum and maximum in the text a direct fetch could read, so this record cannot state a confirmed tuition range; search results referencing a flat SEK 80,000 per semester rate (SEK 105,000 for Architecture) could not be confirmed by reading the cited page directly and are not used.

Admission to Chalmers master's programs is based on academic merit and, for many programs, a program specific ranking of application documents. Non-EU/EEA students who accept an offer must pay their first tuition installment before enrollment is confirmed, then apply for a residence permit for studies through Migrationsverket. Chalmers funds its own scholarships covering part of the tuition fee for a share of admitted fee paying students, decided automatically at the time of admission with no separate application.

Requirements

Bachelor

A completed upper secondary education equivalent to Swedish gymnasium, with strong mathematics and science prerequisites for engineering programs. English proficiency equivalent to English 6.

Master

A bachelor's degree, normally at least 180 ECTS credits, in engineering, science, architecture or a related field, with specific course prerequisites set by each program. English proficiency equivalent to English 6, generally IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no section below 5.5, or TOEFL iBT total 90 with at least 20 in writing.
