Admission at a glance

Lulea University of Technology admits bachelor's and master's students through universityadmissions.se, the national portal used by every Swedish university. Applicants who are not citizens of the EU, EEA or Switzerland apply in the international round for autumn entry, which opens 16 October 2026 and closes 15 January 2027, with supporting documents and the SEK 900 national application fee due 1 February 2027 and results published 1 April 2027 for master's programmes. These national dates and fee are confirmed on universityadmissions.se; Lulea's own deadlines page was not checked in this pass.

Lulea's own tuition and application fees page, read directly in September 2026, lists a per programme fee table rather than one university wide figure: master's programmes range from SEK 40,000 a semester for International Business, Information Security and Data Science to SEK 119,000 a semester for Music Performance, with most engineering, geoscience and science master's programmes, including Exploration and Environmental Geosciences, Cyber Security, Composite Materials and Applied AI, at SEK 70,000 a semester. English taught bachelor's programmes on the same table, such as Mineral Resource Engineering and Computer Game Programming, sit in the same SEK 70,000 a semester band. The page also notes a SEK 6,000 administrative charge deducted from refunds as of the 2026 autumn semester.

Lulea teaches English taught master's programmes mainly in engineering, natural resources and technology fields, with admission based on documented academic merit against each programme's own requirements. The English proficiency requirement recorded here (IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90) is the national English 6 standard used across Sweden rather than a figure confirmed on Lulea's own pages, since those pages could not be reached. Non-EU/EEA students who accept an offer pay tuition to the university, then apply for a residence permit for studies through Migrationsverket.

Requirements

Bachelor

A completed upper secondary education equivalent to Swedish gymnasium, with subject specific prerequisites set by each programme. English proficiency equivalent to English 6.

Master

A bachelor's degree, normally at least 180 ECTS credits, in engineering, science or a related field, with prerequisites set by each programme. English proficiency equivalent to English 6, generally IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, or TOEFL iBT total 90; these figures are the national standard rather than confirmed directly on ltu.se, which could not be reached during this research run.
