Admission at a glance

VIA University College is a professionshojskole, a Danish university college that awards two main kinds of degree to its international students: a two-year Academy Profession (AP) degree, such as the AP in Design, Technology and Business or the AP in Construction Technology, and a three-and-a-half to four-year Professional Bachelor's degree (BA), such as the BA in Software Technology Engineering or the BA in Character Animation. A one-and-a-half-year BA Top-Up route lets an AP graduate continue directly into a bachelor's degree, for example the BA Top-Up in Design and Business. None of these are research degrees; they combine classroom study with mandatory internship periods and lead to a professional qualification recognised for Danish and, for engineering programmes, EU-wide practice.

Applicants from outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland who do not already hold a Danish residence permit apply through the national optagelse.dk portal. The application window opens 1 February and closes 15 March at noon, the fixed national deadline that applies to bachelor's level admission across Danish institutions. Applicants pay a one-time non-refundable application fee of DKK 1,125 (about EUR 150) when applying, which is credited against first-year tuition if the applicant is admitted and accepts a place. Successful applicants pay their first year of tuition between 15 May and 1 June, upload final documentation by 5 July, and receive their acceptance letter by 28 July. VIA then supports the admissions process for the SIRI study residence permit.

Tuition is charged per semester and varies by programme rather than by a single university-wide figure: VIA's own 2026/2027 fee schedule lists DKK 60,000 to 62,500 a semester for most programmes researched here, with one internship semester on several engineering and construction programmes charged at a reduced DKK 12,500 to 44,000. English proficiency is demonstrated with an IELTS Academic score of at least 6.5, a TOEFL iBT score of at least 94 (or 4.5 on the new banded scale used for tests taken from 21 January 2026), a Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency average score of 180, or 210 hours of upper secondary English in the final three years with a grade point average of at least 2.0.

Requirements

Academy profession (AP) and bachelor's programmes

Applicants need a qualifying upper secondary school examination, or a foreign qualification recognised as comparable, that meets the specific subject prerequisites of the chosen programme; some engineering and construction programmes require a specific mathematics or physics background, stated on each programme's own page. Academic transcripts must be uploaded in PDF format with the application.

English proficiency: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, or TOEFL iBT 94 (4.5 on the new banded scale for tests from 21 January 2026), or TOEFL paper-based Reading 19-23 / Listening 20-23 / Writing 24-26 / Speaking 20-22, or Cambridge C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency average 180. Applicants who completed the final three years of upper secondary school with at least 210 hours of English and a grade point average of at least 2.0 on the Danish scale do not need a separate test.
