Requirements
Academy profession (AP) and bachelor's programmes
Applicants need a qualifying upper secondary school examination, or a foreign qualification recognised as comparable, that meets the specific subject prerequisites of the chosen programme; some engineering and construction programmes require a specific mathematics or physics background, stated on each programme's own page. Academic transcripts must be uploaded in PDF format with the application.
English proficiency: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall, or TOEFL iBT 94 (4.5 on the new banded scale for tests from 21 January 2026), or TOEFL paper-based Reading 19-23 / Listening 20-23 / Writing 24-26 / Speaking 20-22, or Cambridge C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency average 180. Applicants who completed the final three years of upper secondary school with at least 210 hours of English and a grade point average of at least 2.0 on the Danish scale do not need a separate test.
Documents
Secondary school leaving certificate and transcripts in PDF format, proof of English proficiency (test certificate or upper secondary transcript showing English hours and grade), a copy of a valid passport or other photo ID, and, for applicants without a Danish CPR number or MitID, a signed signature page returned to VIA. Programme specific supplementary material, such as a portfolio for the animation and design programmes, may be required; check the individual programme page.
How to apply
- Check the entry requirements, English proficiency rule and any programme specific prerequisite on the chosen programme's own page.
- Apply through optagelse.dk from 1 February; up to eight programmes can be listed on one application.
- Pay the DKK 1,125 non-refundable application fee as part of the application.
- Submit the signature page and supporting documents by the 15 March, 12:00 noon deadline.
- VIA assesses applications after the deadline and issues a preliminary offer; the applicant signs and returns the study contract.
- Pay the first year of tuition between 15 May and 1 June.
- Upload any final documentation, such as a completed final-year transcript, by 5 July.
- Receive the official acceptance letter by 28 July, then apply for a Danish study residence permit through SIRI.
English test waiver
Applicants who completed the final three years of upper secondary school with at least 210 hours of English and a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 on the Danish grading scale do not need to submit a separate English test.
