UiS splits its international admission by citizenship and opens the non-EU window first: applicants from outside the EU and EEA apply between 15 November and 1 December for studies starting the following August, while EU, EEA and Swiss applicants apply between 1 February and 1 March. Applicants already living in Norway count as local and use different dates. Admission is to named master's programmes taught in English, and each has its own academic requirement on top of the university's general ones. English must be documented with a recognised test taken within the last two years, except Cambridge qualifications which do not expire. Tuition is charged to students who are not citizens of Norway, the EU, the EEA or Switzerland unless they meet one of the university's exemption criteria, and it must be paid in full before each academic year, with no instalments. A student permit also requires separately documented money for living costs, transferred to a Norwegian student deposit account by a deadline in June, on top of tuition; the exact amount is set nationally and adjusted every year, so check UiS's current figure rather than an older one. Plan both before applying rather than after an offer arrives.
