ULisboa admits non-EU applicants through Portugal's special contest for international students, and each faculty runs the process; this record follows the Faculty of Sciences, which covers the science and technology bachelor's degrees. For 2026/27 there were two bachelor's application periods: 2 January to 6 February 2026, with results by 6 March, and 6 April to 22 May 2026, with results by 19 June. Remaining vacancies were announced by 31 March between the two. Master's applications ran 9 March to 17 April and 22 June to 17 July, and doctoral applications 1 July to 17 August and 2 December 2026 to 15 January 2027. The step that catches people is what follows a result: an admitted applicant must pay a EUR 500 deposit to reserve the place within five consecutive days of the announcement. The application itself needs a passport, a sworn declaration that the candidate is not Portuguese and does not fall under any condition that would remove international student status, the secondary school diploma and final grades, proof of the admission exams Portugal requires for that course taken in the last three calendar years, and the Portuguese B1 evidence. Documents from outside the EU must be certified by Portuguese consular services or carry the Hague Apostille, and anything not in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish must be translated. An application missing any required document is rejected automatically. The application fee is EUR 60. International student status is kept until the end of the cycle of studies, even if an equal-rights treaty later applies, unless the student acquires Portuguese, EU or EEA nationality.
