NOVA admits non-EU applicants through Portugal's special competition for international students, but it is a federated university and the school running the degree sets the fee, the calendar and the language rule, so an applicant should work from the school's page rather than the university's. At the School of Science and Technology, which covers the engineering and science bachelor's degrees, the first application phase for 2026/27 ran from 1 to 22 April 2026. A candidate may apply to at most three study cycles a year, ranked by preference. The application needs the qualification giving access to higher education in the candidate's own country, a document proving proficiency in the language the course is taught in, and translations into Portuguese or English for anything not issued in Portuguese, English, French or Spanish. By enrolment, the key certificates must be legalised either by a Portuguese diplomatic or consular authority or with the Hague Apostille. The application fee is EUR 70 and is non-refundable; an unpaid application is excluded automatically without evaluation. Enrolment then costs EUR 35 plus EUR 1.40 for school insurance. Because bachelor's teaching is in Portuguese, the language certificate is the step to start earliest.
