NOVA University Lisbon Admission Requirements 2027

NOVA University Lisbon is a federation of nine schools, and each sets its own fee and calendar. At its School of Science and Technology, which teaches the engineering and science bachelor's degrees, international tuition is EUR 7,000 a year for all nationalities and the first application phase for 2026/27 ran from 1 to 22 April. Bachelor's teaching is in Portuguese and needs B1.

English test waiver

NOVA's School of Science and Technology states plainly that all its bachelor's teaching is in Portuguese, with some support in English for foreign students only at master's and doctoral level. An applicant under the international student special competition must therefore prove knowledge of the language of instruction at CEFR B1 or higher, which for these degrees means Portuguese. The separate B1 English or A2 Portuguese rule quoted on the same page applies to exchange and mobility students, not to degree applicants, and the school recommends B2 English for those. No IELTS or TOEFL score is named for degree admission. NOVA's Faculty of Social and Human Sciences has run Portuguese courses for foreigners since 1997, in semester, summer, online and small-group formats, and those are the usual way to reach the level.
