Admission at a glance

The University of Copenhagen takes master's applications directly through its own portal rather than a shared national system; bachelor admission for non-Danish upper secondary graduates instead goes through the national optagelse.dk portal, since most of the university's bachelor's programmes are taught in Danish and only a small number of English-taught bachelor's options exist. For a September master's start, non-EU, non-EEA and non-Swiss applicants must submit their application by 15 January at 23:59, with an offer by 13 March; EU, EEA and Swiss citizens apply later, by 1 March, with an offer by 15 May. A smaller February start exists only for applicants who already hold a legal right of admission, such as an existing qualifying residence permit.

Non-EU, non-EEA and non-Swiss applicants pay a DKK 1,120 (about EUR 150) application deposit when they apply. Full tuition for a master's degree is calculated per programme through the university's own online fee tool rather than published as one university wide figure, so this record cannot state a confirmed minimum or maximum; separately, short term guest students from outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland pay DKK 27,500 to 62,500 a semester depending on faculty, for comparison. Every master's programme sets its own language requirement; the university wide English B level standard is an IELTS Academic score of 6.5 with at least 6 in each part, or a TOEFL iBT score of 83 with at least 20 in each section, while a smaller number of programmes set the higher English A level (IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 100).

Requirements

Bachelor

Most bachelor's programmes are taught in Danish and require Danish language qualifications; a small number of programmes accept English taught upper secondary qualifications instead. Master

A relevant bachelor's degree, normally at least 180 ECTS credits, that gives access to the specific master's programme; exact academic prerequisites are set by each programme. English proficiency at English B level: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (at least 6 per section) or TOEFL iBT 83 (at least 20 per section); some programmes require the higher English A level, IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 100.
