University of Bologna Admission 2027: Deadlines, Requirements, Fees for International Students

Admission at a glance

The University of Bologna admits non-EU applicants through the Universitaly pre-enrolment portal alongside its own online application on the DreamApply platform. Bachelor's applicants need a secondary school qualification that gives access to university study in the country where it was issued and, for programmes taught in Italian, a certified B2 level of Italian; programmes taught in English ask for a B2 level of English instead. Master's applicants need a first-cycle degree in a relevant field, and some professional or capped-entry programmes require an entrance test or portfolio. Non-EU citizens who need a student visa must complete pre-enrolment on Universitaly before or alongside applying to the university; the University of Bologna then validates the application so the applicant can book a visa appointment at the competent Italian consulate. Tuition is calculated under the ISEE system: students in the lowest income bracket pay only the fixed instalment of EUR 157.04, and the amount rises with declared household income up to a maximum set out in the university's own published fee table for each degree class. International students can also apply for the regional DSU study grant administered by ER.GO, which can reduce fees to zero and add a stipend for students below the regional income threshold. Requirements

Bachelor

A secondary school qualification recognised as giving access to university study, normally twelve years of schooling completed with a final examination. Applicants from eleven-year school systems may need an extra qualifying year before enrolling. Programmes taught in Italian ask for a B2 Italian certificate; programmes taught in English ask for B2 English.

Master

A first-cycle (bachelor's) degree in a field relevant to the chosen programme, normally worth at least 180 ECTS credits or the equivalent. Some programmes set minimum credit requirements in specific subject areas and hold an admission interview or entrance test.
