Roskilde University is a public university west of Copenhagen known for interdisciplinary, project organised study, with a single intake each year on 1 September for both bachelor's and master's programmes. Non-EU/EEA/Swiss bachelor applicants apply through the national optagelse.dk portal with documentation due by 15 March at noon; non-EU/EEA/Swiss master's applicants who must pay tuition apply directly to Roskilde University by 15 January, well ahead of EU/EEA/Swiss applicants and tuition exempt non-EU/EEA/Swiss applicants, who both have until 1 March.

Non-EU/EEA/Swiss applicants pay a EUR 200 (about DKK 1,490) application fee, due by the 15 March bachelor deadline. Tuition for students entering from September 2026 is set by programme and billed per semester: confirmed figures for this record are about EUR 5,000 to EUR 8,000 a semester (EUR 10,000 to EUR 16,000 a year), with humanities and social science programmes at the lower end and natural science programmes higher; a full three year bachelor's degree costs roughly EUR 30,000 to EUR 48,000 in total. Roskilde University's own admission pages accept an IELTS Academic score of 6.5 or older scale TOEFL scores (560 paper based or 225 computer based) as proof of English; test results cannot be more than two years old, and the IELTS One Skill Retake is not accepted.

Requirements

Bachelor

A foreign qualifying exam assessed for equivalence to Danish upper secondary level, plus any programme specific prerequisites. Proof of English proficiency for English taught programmes.

Master

A relevant bachelor's degree meeting the specific programme's academic prerequisites, published on RUC's master's programme pages. English proficiency: an IELTS Academic score of 6.5, or the equivalent older scale TOEFL score; test results must be less than two years old.
