NMBU runs one international admission window for both its master's programmes and its English-taught bachelor's in International Environment and Development Studies: the application portal opens on 15 October and closes on 1 December, and 1 December is also the last day to upload every supporting document, so an application with documents still missing at the deadline is invalid rather than incomplete. That window is for applicants from outside the EU and EEA, who must also show they can document their financial ability for a study permit, which NMBU states as NOK 166,859 for the academic year on top of tuition. The university makes three points applicants often miss. First, its English requirement is higher than Norway's national list, IELTS 7.0 for master's. Second, it offers no scholarships that cover tuition, so the fee has to be funded before applying. Third, tuition is paid in full before each academic year with no instalments, and for applicants admitted in this round, with offers sent by the end of April, the deadline to pay is 20 May. An applicant who believes they are exempt from tuition applies for the exemption by the deadline given in the admission letter. NMBU also teaches programmes in Norwegian, which require both Norwegian and English.
