Admission at a glance

Jagiellonian University, founded in 1364, is Poland's oldest university, with faculties across several campuses in Krakow. International candidates without Polish citizenship apply through the university's 'Welcome to the Jagiellonian University' admission route rather than the domestic one, registering an account in the IRK system (irk.uj.edu.pl), selecting a programme and completing the forms shown for it, then saving the application before the deadline. Each application carries its own fee, payable by bank transfer or card through IRK. Most programmes require an online admission interview, commonly held over MS Teams, assessing both subject aptitude and language proficiency at a minimum B2 level; some fields add a written exam or a physical fitness test. Results are published on the candidate's IRK account as qualified, waitlisted or not qualified, and a qualified candidate must then submit the required documents to their faculty's student office by the published deadline; a candidate may apply before receiving their final school-leaving certificate but must provide it before enrolling. Tuition is not set centrally: it is fixed per programme by the Rector's annual ordinance and shown on each programme's own IRK page, which is why confirmed figures for this record range from about EUR 4,000 a year for a social-science master's such as Global and Development Studies up to EUR 15,500 for the English-taught Medicine programme, with several Polish-taught fields instead billed in PLN.

Requirements

Bachelor

• A secondary school certificate that qualifies for higher education in its country of issue.
• English proficiency at CEFR B2 for English-taught programmes (IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72, PTE 59, or an accepted Cambridge, Trinity or telc certificate), checked again at the admission interview.
• An online admission interview assessing aptitude and language for most programmes; some add a written exam or fitness test.

Master

• A bachelor's degree in a relevant field; a non-EHEA degree is checked by the faculty for equivalent academic level rather than formal nostrification.
• The same B2 English minimum as bachelor level, rising to C1 (IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 87) for Medicine.
• An admission interview or written exam set by the specific programme.
