Admission at a glance
Universidad Complutense de Madrid is a large public university with faculties spread across a main campus in Moncloa, in the city of Madrid, and it is one of the biggest universities in Spain by enrolment. Almost all bachelor degrees are taught in Spanish, so a non-EU applicant to a bachelor programme first needs a B1 level of Spanish for general coursework, and a separate access route depending on where they finished secondary school. Applicants from an EU or EEA system, from a country with a bilateral recognition agreement with Spain, or holding an International Baccalaureate or European Baccalaureate diploma register directly with UNEDasiss, the national service that issues an access credential Spanish universities can read. Applicants from any other foreign school system must first have their secondary certificate homologated (formally recognised as equivalent to the Spanish Bachillerato) by Spain's Ministry of Education before UCM will consider the application; UCM's own bachelor-access page for non-EU students without an exchange agreement points applicants to UNED's recognition office rather than to UCM directly for this step. Once the credential is issued, the applicant submits a passport copy, the UNED credential and academic transcripts to UCM by certified mail or in person. UCM also runs a separate, earlier admission window each year for a subset of bachelor places reserved for international applicants whose family resides outside Spain, called Early Admission, alongside the general national pre-registration calendar most Spanish public universities share. For master's degrees, a non-EHEA bachelor's graduate does not need formal homologation; UCM instead verifies directly that the applicant's prior degree is of an equivalent level, and admission runs through the university's own preinscripcion (pre-registration) calendar in ordinary rounds during the year before the September start, followed by a separate enrolment period once an offer is accepted. English-taught master's programmes ask for a C1-level English certificate rather than a specific test score.
