Admission at a glance

Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya groups UPC's engineering, architecture and related schools across several campuses in and around Barcelona, teaching mainly in Catalan and Spanish. A non-EU bachelor applicant follows the shared national and Catalan route: UNEDasiss registration for EU, reciprocal-agreement or IB/EB applicants, or Ministry homologacion of the secondary certificate first for everyone else, with the resulting UNEDasiss score, on a five-to-ten scale, used as the applicant's access grade. For master's degrees, UPC does not require formal homologation for a non-EHEA bachelor's degree; instead UPC verifies that the prior study corresponds to a level equivalent to an official Spanish university degree and that it would have allowed the applicant to start a master's in the country where it was awarded, a process that stops short of homologating the degree for any other purpose. In June 2025 UPC's governing council and board of trustees approved a large cut to non-EU tuition, effective from that date: the bachelor credit price for non-EU non-resident students fell from EUR 42.56 to EUR 30, and the master's credit price fell from EUR 102.52 to EUR 45, applied uniformly to regulated and non-regulated master's programmes alike. A non-refundable EUR 300 admission fee is charged when a non-EU applicant accepts a master's offer, to make the admission official and reserve a place, though UPC exempts students progressing directly from its own sequential bachelor-to-master programmes from this fee. Master's pre-enrolment commonly runs in at least two rounds ahead of the September intake, for example a first round from February to early March and a second round from mid-April to mid-May at UPC's Barcelona School of Industrial Engineering, with final results published by early July; individual schools set their own exact dates. For English-taught study, UPC follows the Catalan government's own inter-university certificate table, published in the DOGC, which sets CEFR B2 at IELTS 5.5 to 6.5, TOEFL iBT 72 to 94, or PTE Academic 59 to 75.

Requirements

Bachelor

• Applicants whose secondary schooling was completed in the EU/EEA, in a country with a bilateral agreement with Spain, or who hold an IB or EB diploma: register with UNEDasiss for an access credential.
• Applicants from any other foreign school system: obtain homologacion of the secondary certificate from Spain's Ministry of Education first, then register with UNEDasiss.
• Foreign documentation must be legalised and officially translated; conditional admission is possible while legalisation is completed.

Master

• A bachelor's degree from an EHEA institution, or, for a non-EHEA degree, UPC's own verification that it is equivalent to a Spanish university degree and would have allowed master's-level study in its country of origin.
• Programme-specific academic requirements set by the individual master's degree.
• For programmes with an English requirement, CEFR B2 or higher, evidenced by IELTS 5.5 to 6.5, TOEFL iBT 72 to 94, PTE Academic 59 to 75, or another certificate on the Catalan inter-university table.
