UAB is a large public research university on a campus at Cerdanyola del Valles, outside Barcelona, teaching mainly in Catalan and Spanish with English-taught options at master's level. Admission at a glance

Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona sits on a single campus at Cerdanyola del Valles, a short train ride from central Barcelona, and is one of Catalonia's two large public research universities alongside the University of Barcelona. Most bachelor teaching is in Catalan or Spanish. A non-EU applicant whose foreign secondary or university studies have not already been homologated by Spain's Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities has two routes into a bachelor programme: request homologation first and then apply through the shared university pre-enrolment portal, or, for students with incomplete studies or qualifications the Ministry does not homologate directly, request admission through validation of their studies instead. For master's degrees, a foreign degree used for master's or doctoral access goes through UAB's own equivalence-of-studies process rather than full homologation, which UAB charges a separate fee for. UAB's master's pre-enrolment runs across several terms through the year, opening in January and continuing, for many programmes, until early October, each term with its own submission and resolution date; a bachelor's applicant instead follows the shared Catalan and national pre-registration calendar. Tuition is charged per ECTS credit under the price decree the Generalitat de Catalunya issues annually for resident and EU students, currently EUR 17.69 a credit for a standard bachelor degree; UAB's own Social Council separately fixes a higher non-EU, non-resident credit price each year, which for master's degrees at UAB runs from about EUR 66 a credit for professionalising and recommended master's degrees up to roughly EUR 75 a credit for some non-professionalising programmes. For courses and programmes taught in English, UAB's own published standard is CEFR B2, evidenced by TOEFL 78, IELTS 6 or a Cambridge Advanced or First Certificate, though a small number of specialised master's programmes ask for C1 instead.

Requirements

Bachelor

  • Applicants with foreign secondary or university studies not yet homologated: request homologation from Spain's Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, then apply through the shared university pre-enrolment portal.
  • Applicants with incomplete studies, or whose qualification is not directly homologable: request admission through validation of their studies instead.
  • Programme-specific Catalan, Spanish or English requirements set by the individual degree.

Master

  • A bachelor's degree; a non-EHEA foreign degree goes through UAB's own equivalence-of-studies process (a paid service) rather than full homologation.
  • Programme-specific academic requirements set by the individual master's degree.
  • For most master's programmes with an English component, CEFR B2 (TOEFL 78, IELTS 6 or Cambridge Advanced/First); some specialised programmes, such as the master's in English Studies, ask for C1.
