Admission at a glance

Universidad Autonoma de Madrid is one of Spain's leading public research universities, based on a single campus at Cantoblanco outside central Madrid. Most bachelor programmes are taught in Spanish, and applicants generally need a B2 level of Spanish, though a number of degrees also ask for B2 English where the programme has an international or bilingual track. Non-EU bachelor applicants follow one of two routes depending on their school system: students from the EU, from a country with a reciprocal agreement with Spain, or holding an IB or EB diploma register directly with UNEDasiss for an access credential; students from any other system must first complete homologacion of their secondary certificate with Spain's Ministry of Education before registering with UNEDasiss. Alongside the shared national pre-registration calendar, UAM runs its own Early Admission process each year for international applicants whose family resides outside Spain, with an application fee of EUR 70 per degree requested; for entry in 2026-27 this window ran from mid-December 2025 to late February 2026. For master's degrees, UAM's Centro de Estudios de Posgrado runs its own admission calendar with a first phase early in the year and a second phase in the summer for programmes with places still open; a bachelor's degree from outside the European Higher Education Area is assessed by UAM for equivalent academic level rather than needing formal homologation. Tuition is charged per ECTS credit under the price decree the Community of Madrid issues each year: non-EU students who are not residents of Spain pay the top bracket, which for a 60-credit bachelor year runs from about EUR 6,823 to EUR 8,186 depending on the degree's experimentality level, and for a 60-credit general master's programme is about EUR 5,044.

Requirements

Bachelor

• Applicants whose secondary schooling was completed in the EU/EEA, in a country with a bilateral agreement with Spain, or who hold an IB or EB diploma: register with UNEDasiss for an access credential.
• Applicants from any other foreign school system: obtain homologacion of the secondary certificate from Spain's Ministry of Education first, then register with UNEDasiss.
• A B2 level of Spanish is generally required, and B2 English for programmes with a specific bilingual or international admission requirement.
• Applicants whose family resides outside Spain may instead apply through UAM's own Early Admission window, paying a EUR 70 application fee per degree requested.

Master

• A bachelor's degree from an EHEA institution, or, for a non-EHEA degree, UAM's own verification that the prior degree is of an equivalent academic level.
• Programme-specific academic requirements set by the individual master's degree.
• For programmes with an English requirement, a certificate at CEFR B2 or higher; UAM's own table sets this at IELTS 5.5 to 6.5, TOEFL iBT 72 to 94 or PTE Academic 59 to 75.
