Admission at a glance
Universitat de Barcelona is a large public university with faculties across several campuses in the city of Barcelona. Most bachelor programmes are taught in Catalan or Spanish, with English-taught options concentrated at master's level, particularly in the UB Business School and a number of science and social science master's degrees. A non-EU applicant to a bachelor programme follows the same national route as at other Spanish public universities: registering with UNEDasiss directly if their school system has a recognition agreement with Spain or they hold an IB/EB diploma, or completing homologacion of their secondary certificate with Spain's Ministry of Education first if it does not. Because homologacion can take many months, UB and UNEDasiss both advise non-EU applicants to start the process as early as possible and to apply in the first admission period rather than waiting for a later round, since the credential and any visa still need to be arranged before the course starts. Once the access credential is issued, the applicant competes for a place through the shared Catalan public university pre-registration system rather than applying to UB alone. For master's degrees, admission runs through UB's own preinscripcio process, opening in mid-January for entry the following September and continuing in further rounds through the spring for programmes with places remaining; a non-EHEA bachelor's degree is assessed by UB for equivalent academic level rather than requiring formal homologation. Tuition at Catalan public universities is fixed per ECTS credit by an annual decree of the Catalan government for resident and EU students, and UB's own Social Council separately sets a higher credit price for students who are not EU nationals and not resident in Spain, which for master's degrees at UB has run from roughly EUR 82 to EUR 110 a credit depending on the programme.

Requirements
Bachelor
- Applicants whose secondary schooling was completed in the EU/EEA, in a country with a bilateral agreement with Spain, or who hold an IB or EB diploma: register with UNEDasiss for an access credential.
- Applicants from any other foreign school system: obtain homologacion of the secondary certificate from Spain's Ministry of Education first, then register with UNEDasiss; because this step can take several months, UB advises starting it well before the intended intake.
- Compete for a place through the shared Catalan public university pre-registration (preinscripcio) system using the UNEDasiss access mark.
Master
- A bachelor's degree from an EHEA institution, or, for a non-EHEA degree, UB's own assessment that the prior degree is of an equivalent academic level.
- Programme-specific academic requirements set by the individual master's degree.
- For English-taught programmes, an English certificate; UB accepts IELTS Academic from around 5.5 to 6.0 depending on the programme, alongside Cambridge and TOEFL certificates.
