Universitat de Barcelona Admission Requirements 2027

UB is Catalonia's largest public university, with most teaching in Catalan or Spanish and a growing set of English-taught master's programmes. Non-EU applicants use UNEDasiss and homologacion for bachelor access, and pay a non-EU credit price the university's Social Council sets separately from the resident and EU rate fixed each year by Catalan government decree.

Requirements

Bachelor

  • Applicants whose secondary schooling was completed in the EU/EEA, in a country with a bilateral agreement with Spain, or who hold an IB or EB diploma: register with UNEDasiss for an access credential.
  • Applicants from any other foreign school system: obtain homologacion of the secondary certificate from Spain's Ministry of Education first, then register with UNEDasiss; because this step can take several months, UB advises starting it well before the intended intake.
  • Compete for a place through the shared Catalan public university pre-registration (preinscripcio) system using the UNEDasiss access mark.

Master

  • A bachelor's degree from an EHEA institution, or, for a non-EHEA degree, UB's own assessment that the prior degree is of an equivalent academic level.
  • Programme-specific academic requirements set by the individual master's degree.
  • For English-taught programmes, an English certificate; UB accepts IELTS Academic from around 5.5 to 6.0 depending on the programme, alongside Cambridge and TOEFL certificates.

Documents

Passport or national ID copy; the UNEDasiss/UNED access or homologation credential (bachelor applicants); academic transcripts and prior degree certificate (master applicants); an English or Catalan/Spanish language certificate as required by the programme; and any further documents the specific faculty requests to confirm degree equivalence for non-EHEA master applicants.

How to apply

  1. Confirm the correct bachelor access route, or for master's, whether a non-EHEA degree needs UB's equivalence check.
  2. Start UNEDasiss registration or homologacion (bachelor) as early as possible given the months-long processing time, or gather transcripts and certificates (master).
  3. Apply through the Catalan public university preinscripcio system (bachelor) or directly through UB's own preinscripcio process (master), applying in the first available period where possible.
  4. Pay the application processing fee and submit the required documents.
  5. Accept the offer, complete matricula (enrolment) and pay tuition within the published window.
  6. Use the acceptance and enrolment documents to apply for the Spanish national student visa.

English test waiver

UB's international students page lists Cambridge, TOEFL and IELTS as its preferred English certificates and accepts IELTS Academic from 5.5 to 6.0 depending on the programme; UB does not publish one single university-wide numeric minimum, so applicants should check the specific degree's own admission page for its exact cutoff.
