Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona Admission Requirements 2027

UAB is a large public research university on a campus at Cerdanyola del Valles, outside Barcelona, teaching mainly in Catalan and Spanish with English-taught options at master's level. Non-EU bachelor applicants go through Ministry of Education homologacion or validation of foreign studies before pre-enrolment, and pay a non-EU credit price the university's Social Council sets separately from the Catalan government's resident/EU rate.

Requirements

Bachelor

Applicants with foreign secondary or university studies not yet homologated: request homologation from Spain's Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, then apply through the shared university pre-enrolment portal.
Applicants with incomplete studies, or whose qualification is not directly homologable: request admission through validation of their studies instead.
Programme-specific Catalan, Spanish or English requirements set by the individual degree.

Master

A bachelor's degree; a non-EHEA foreign degree goes through UAB's own equivalence-of-studies process (a paid service) rather than full homologation.
Programme-specific academic requirements set by the individual master's degree.
For most master's programmes with an English component, CEFR B2 (TOEFL 78, IELTS 6 or Cambridge Advanced/First); some specialised programmes, such as the master's in English Studies, ask for C1.

Documents

Passport or national ID copy; the Ministry homologation or UAB equivalence-of-studies documentation; academic transcripts and, for master applicants, the prior degree certificate; and an English, Catalan or Spanish language certificate as required by the specific programme.

How to apply

Confirm the correct route for a non-EU bachelor applicant (Ministry homologation then pre-enrolment, or validation of studies), or for master's, whether the prior degree needs UAB's equivalence-of-studies process.
Start homologation, equivalence or UNEDasiss steps as early as possible given multi-month processing times.
Apply through the shared university pre-enrolment portal (bachelor) or UAB's own master's pre-enrolment terms (master), applying in the earliest term where possible.
Submit the required documents and pay any equivalence or enrolment fees that apply.
Accept the offer, complete matricula (enrolment) and pay tuition within the published window.
Use the acceptance and enrolment documents to apply for the Spanish national student visa.

English test waiver

UAB's own page for courses taught in English states that a non-native English speaker needs a certificate of English Proficiency at CEFR level B2 or equivalent, giving TOEFL 78, IELTS 6 or a Cambridge Advanced or First Certificate as the accepted evidence; a student without a certificate can instead sit a level test at UAB Idiomes. Some specific master's programmes, such as the master's in English Studies, ask for C1 rather than B2.
