Requirements

Bachelor

• Applicants whose secondary schooling was completed in the EU/EEA, in a country with a bilateral agreement with Spain, or who hold an IB or EB diploma: register with UNEDasiss to receive an access credential; formal homologacion of the school certificate is not required for this group.
• Applicants from any other foreign school system: first obtain homologacion of the secondary certificate from Spain's Ministry of Education, then register with UNEDasiss.
• A B1 level of Spanish is expected for general bachelor coursework; the Bachelor in English Studies asks for a minimum of English B1.3 at entry instead.
• Submit the UNEDasiss/UNED credential, transcripts and passport copy directly to UCM once the credential is issued.

Master

• A bachelor's degree from an EHEA (EU/European Higher Education Area) institution, or, for a non-EHEA degree, UCM's own verification that the prior degree is of an equivalent academic level; this does not require formal homologation.
• Programme-specific academic requirements, such as a related bachelor's degree for restricted-entry master's programmes.
• For English-taught master's programmes, an English certificate at CEFR level C1 (in-person exam certificates only); for Spanish-taught programmes, C1 Spanish is generally expected.

Documents

Passport or national ID copy; the UNEDasiss or UNED access/homologation credential (bachelor applicants); academic transcripts and, where applicable, the prior degree certificate (master applicants); proof of the required Spanish or English level; and, for non-EHEA master applicants, any documentation UCM requests to verify degree equivalence. Certified/attested copies and official translations are required where the original documents are not in Spanish.

How to apply

1. Confirm the correct access route (UNEDasiss only, or Ministry of Education homologacion first) for bachelor applicants; master applicants confirm whether their prior degree needs UCM's equivalence check.
2. Register with UNEDasiss (bachelor) or gather transcripts and certificates (master) well before the relevant deadline.
3. Apply directly to UCM: through the Early Admission window or the general national pre-registration calendar for bachelor programmes, or through UCM's own preinscripcion rounds for master programmes.
4. Submit the required documents by certified mail, in person, or through the online preinscripcion platform, depending on the route.
5. Wait for the admission result, then complete matricula (enrolment) and pay the corresponding tuition within the published enrolment window.
6. Use the acceptance and enrolment documents to apply for the Spanish national student visa.

English test waiver

UCM's general language-policy pages describe English requirements at CEFR level rather than by test score, asking for C1 on English-taught master's programmes such as English Linguistics and North American Studies. UCM's own official certificate-equivalence table (hosted at ucm.es, used across its language accreditation pages) sets the B2 level most other English-medium study asks for at IELTS 5.5 to 6.5 and TOEFL iBT 87 to 109; the same table sets C1 at IELTS 7 to 8 and TOEFL iBT 110 to 120 for the specific programmes that require C1.
