Admission at a glance

Charles is a federation of faculties, and it is the faculty that runs admission, sets the fee and holds the entrance examination; an applicant to two faculties submits two applications and pays two fees. The First Faculty of Medicine, which runs the English-taught General Medicine and Dentistry degrees most international applicants come for, opened applications for its 2026/27 cycle on 1 December and closed them on 5 September, with the written entrance test in Prague in mid-September and an additional term a week later. The entrance examination is held entirely in English and runs in two rounds. Round one is a knowledge test in three parts; candidates qualify for round two on the percentage they achieve across all three parts plus any bonus points, against a threshold the Dean sets by mid-February. Round two is held online within thirty days of round one, and this is the part that decides admission: the points from the two rounds are not added together, and applicants are admitted on their round two result alone against the programme's capacity. Bonus points worth ten per cent of the round one result go to applicants with at least A, A, A at GCE A Level in Biology, Chemistry and a third natural science or mathematics, or a German Abitur with Biology and Chemistry as Leistungskurse at thirteen points each and an overall average of 1.3 or better; the application for them closes fourteen days before round one and predicted grades are not accepted. A waiver of round one is possible for applicants with relevant university-level study in biology, physics or chemistry, but round two is compulsory for everyone. General Medicine expects about 150 places and took 102 of 785 applicants in the preceding year.
