Study in Indonesia: Admission, Cost, Visa and Scholarships (2027)

Indonesia's leading public universities charge foreign undergraduates roughly IDR 15 million to IDR 67 million a semester in 2026-27, plus a one-time development fee, and run international classes taught in English. Foreign degree students need an E30B student visa sponsored by the university, a limited stay permit (ITAS) and a Ministry study permit, and may not work while studying. The government's KNB Scholarship funds bachelor's, master's and doctoral study for students from developing countries.

Two major Indonesian public universities, Universitas Indonesia (UI) in Depok and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in Yogyakarta, both admit foreign students to international and regular classes. Fees are set by rector's decree in Indonesian rupiah per semester, plus a one-time institutional development fee paid at entry.

For 2026-27, UI's decree for foreign nationals charges from IDR 15,000,000 a semester for Sociology to IDR 64,500,000 for Dentistry, with Medicine at IDR 59,400,000, and its master's programmes run from IDR 40,000,000 to IDR 80,000,000 a semester for foreign students. UGM's decree charges foreign undergraduates from IDR 15,100,000 a semester for Sociology to IDR 67,000,000 for Dentistry in its international class. UI charges foreign applicants a USD 150 application fee.

Intakes run in August and February. UI's master's and doctoral registration for the second term of 2026 runs from 6 August to 2 November 2026. UGM takes foreign applicants for its February 2027 intake in two windows, 1 September to 6 October and 13 October to 10 November 2026. UI asks for TOEFL iBT 61 or IELTS 5.5, or a letter confirming an English-medium school.

Foreign degree students study on the E30B visa for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral study, which requires a guarantee letter from an Indonesian citizen or the educational institution, a letter of acceptance, and proof of living expenses of at least USD 2,000. On arrival the holder receives an electronic limited stay permit (e-ITAS) and re-entry permit. The eVisa site shows that Bangladeshi passport holders must apply through a guarantor. The university also applies to the Ministry of Higher Education for a study permit through its online system, and the student signs a statement promising not to work or take part in politics while studying. The eVisa terms state that holders are prohibited from working or receiving wages.

The Indonesian government's KNB Scholarship supports bachelor's, master's and doctoral study at 47 partner universities for students from developing countries, covering tuition, monthly living costs, travel and health insurance; the 2026 application window ran from 2 February to 31 March 2026, and awardees study in Indonesian after up to a year of language classes.
