How to Apply to Universities in Indonesia (2027): Step by Step

Indonesia's leading public universities charge foreign undergraduates roughly IDR 15 million to IDR 67 million a semester in 2026-27, plus a one-time development fee, and run international classes taught in English. Foreign degree students need an E30B student visa sponsored by the university, a limited stay permit (ITAS) and a Ministry study permit, and may not work while studying. The government's KNB Scholarship funds bachelor's, master's and doctoral study for students from developing countries.

Degree study in Indonesia

  1. Choose a university and class, international (English) or regular (Indonesian).
  2. Apply online in the university's window and pay any fee (USD 150 at Universitas Indonesia).
  3. Meet the English requirement, for example TOEFL iBT 61 or IELTS 5.5 at UI.
  4. Accept the offer and pay tuition; the university applies to the Ministry for your study permit.
  5. Apply for the E30B student visa with the university as guarantor, a letter of acceptance and proof of at least USD 2,000 for living expenses.
  6. Receive your e-ITAS on arrival and extend it through the local immigration office before it expires.
