Admission at a glance

Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) is the Malaysian branch campus of Xiamen University in China, with its own campus in Sepang, Selangor, and its own admission and fee structure. Applicants can apply online through apply.xmu.edu.my, by email to admissions@xmu.edu.my, or on paper, submitting certified academic transcripts, a certified passport copy and passport photographs alongside proof of application fee payment. English requirements vary by school: XMUM's own site confirms IELTS 5.0 as the floor for Foundation programmes and for several Science and Arts bachelor's degrees, while Bachelor of Management and Bachelor of Economics programmes set their own higher bar up to IELTS 6.0, and Master's and PhD programmes require IELTS 6.0; applicants who fall short sit an English Placement Test and, if needed, an Intensive English Program before their main course starts. XMUM's official fee schedule for the 2026 academic year, published in November 2025, lists undergraduate tuition by school and programme: bachelor's degrees run from RM 27,000 a year (English Language and Literature) to RM 32,000 a year (Cyber Security, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics degrees), against RM 18,000 to RM 20,000 a year for the three Foundation programmes. Administrative charges are itemised separately: a non-refundable RM 318 Application and Registration Fee, a non-refundable RM 100 Hostel Application Fee, and a non-refundable RM 2,650 a year International Student Fee that XMUM states covers the admin fee, EMGS fee, visa application and renewal, and insurance together; the combined amount due on application is RM 3,068. Undergraduate intakes run in February, April and September. After an offer is accepted, XMUM applies to Education Malaysia Global Services for the student's visa or student pass, a process the university's own guidelines state takes about six to eight weeks, before the Visa Approval Letter is issued and the student can arrange travel.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree

A recognised secondary or pre-university qualification appropriate to the chosen school; XMUM assesses academic transcripts against each programme's own entry standard.

English language

Foundation programmes and several Science and Arts bachelor's degrees: IELTS 5.0. Bachelor of Management and Bachelor of Economics degrees: up to IELTS 6.0. Applicants who do not meet the required band sit an English Placement Test and may need an Intensive English Program before their main programme begins; O-Level English at grade C or above can substitute for a test.

Postgraduate (master's and PhD)

A relevant bachelor's degree (master's) or master's degree (PhD) assessed by the receiving school. English floor: IELTS 6.0.
