Requirements
Bachelor's degree
A recognised secondary or pre-university qualification appropriate to the chosen school; XMUM assesses academic transcripts against each programme's own entry standard.
English language
Foundation programmes and several Science and Arts bachelor's degrees: IELTS 5.0. Bachelor of Management and Bachelor of Economics degrees: up to IELTS 6.0. Applicants who do not meet the required band sit an English Placement Test and may need an Intensive English Program before their main programme begins; O-Level English at grade C or above can substitute for a test.
Postgraduate (master's and PhD)
A relevant bachelor's degree (master's) or master's degree (PhD) assessed by the receiving school. English floor: IELTS 6.0.

- Certified true copy of passport (all pages)
- Passport-size colour photographs taken within the last six months
- Proof of payment of application and registration fees
- Scholarship application form, where relevant
- Documents for the EMGS visa/student pass application after an offer is accepted
How to apply
- Choose a programme and confirm its entry and English requirements on XMUM's admissions pages.
- Apply online at apply.xmu.edu.my, by email to admissions@xmu.edu.my, or on paper through the Admissions Office.
- Submit certified transcripts, passport copy and photographs, and pay the combined RM 3,068 due on application (RM 318 Application and Registration Fee, RM 100 Hostel Application Fee and RM 2,650 International Student Fee covering EMGS, visa and insurance costs), inclusive of 6 percent SST.
- Receive and review the offer and admissions decision from XMUM Admissions.
- XMUM submits the student visa/student pass application to Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) on the student's behalf; the university's own guidelines state this takes about six to eight weeks.
- Receive the Visa Approval Letter (VAL) once EMGS approves the application, then arrange travel to Malaysia.
- On arrival, report to the International Student Affairs Office, complete a medical check-up, and submit the passport for visa endorsement within seven working days of the medical check-up.
English test waiver
A general floor of IELTS 5.0 applies to Foundation programmes and several Science and Arts bachelor's degrees; Bachelor of Management and Bachelor of Economics programmes set their own higher requirement, up to IELTS 6.0. Master's and PhD programmes require IELTS 6.0.
