The University of Würzburg, formally the Julius-Maximilians-Universität (JMU), is a public university in Bavaria with a research tradition going back to 1402 and a strong record in medicine and the natural sciences, including several Nobel laureates among its researchers. Unlike TU Munich, which already charges a non-EU tuition fee, and FAU, which introduces one from summer semester 2027, Würzburg charged no tuition fee to non-EU students as of this verification; Bavarian law allows any university in the state to introduce such a fee, so this position should be rechecked periodically rather than assumed permanent. Bachelor's

Applicants need a higher education entrance qualification recognised as equivalent to the German Abitur, reviewed through uni-assist, which requires a preliminary document review (VPD) before the university application. Most bachelor's programmes are taught in German and require German proficiency.

Master's

Applicants need a relevant bachelor's degree. English requirements are set per programme, typically CEFR B2 to C1; a representative example, the Management International programme, accepts TOEFL iBT 72 or IELTS 6.0. Applicants whose bachelor's degree was taught entirely in English can usually submit a letter confirming the medium of instruction instead of a test certificate.
