Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is a public university and national research centre in Baden-Wurttemberg, known for engineering and the natural sciences. Under the state's tuition law, KIT has charged non-EU international students EUR 1,500 a semester for Bachelor's, teaching degree and consecutive Master's programmes, and free movers, since the 2017/18 winter semester; EU/EEA students and other exempt groups do not pay this fee.

Applicants with a first degree from outside Germany go through KIT's own international student office rather than uni-assist for most programmes. Document requirements include a certified copy and translation of the Bachelor's degree, a full transcript of records with course content and credit information, and, for some countries, an Assessment of Prospective Students (APS) certificate, currently required for applicants from China, Vietnam and India. Master's applicants must submit a language certificate for the language of instruction; KIT accepts TOEFL, IELTS or Cambridge certificates for English-taught programmes. For degree-seeking Master's applicants, the standard deadline is 15 July for the winter semester and 15 January for the summer semester, with a decision usually issued within four weeks of the deadline.

Requirements

Bachelor's

A higher education entrance qualification recognised as equivalent to the Abitur is required.

Master's

A relevant Bachelor's degree is required, with a full transcript showing course content and credit weight. Applicants from some countries, including China, Vietnam and India, need an APS certificate confirming their academic background before KIT will consider the application.
