Admission at a glance

The University of Warsaw is the country's largest public university, with faculties spread across several campuses in the capital, including the landmark main campus on Krakowskie Przedmiescie. International candidates without Polish citizenship apply through the Internet Recruitment of Candidates (IRK) system at irk.uw.edu.pl rather than the route used by Polish school leavers: after creating an account, a candidate enters their education record, attaches scans of translated diplomas and transcripts, chooses one or more fields of study, and pays the application fee for each. Some programmes require an online qualification interview or written exam, for which the candidate uploads an approved photograph and a signed statement in advance; others admit on the documented record alone. Once qualification results are published on the candidate's IRK account, an admitted applicant must send the required original or certified documents by the stated deadline, since missing it counts as withdrawing the application, and the Rector then issues the formal admission decision. Tuition for non-EU students is set separately for each English-taught programme rather than through one flat fee, published each year as a PDF tuition-fee table covering both first-cycle (bachelor and long-cycle master's) and second-cycle (master's) study, paid per year rather than per semester. Registration for the main October intake typically opens in February and runs into early July, with a small number of programmes running a later, additional round for places that remain open.

Requirements

Bachelor

• A secondary school certificate that qualifies for higher education study in the country where it was issued, with a certified translation.
• Proof of English proficiency for English-taught programmes: IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72, PTE Academic 59, or an accepted exemption.
• Programme-specific entrance exams or qualification interviews for some fields, held online.

Master

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field, with a certified transcript and diploma.
• The same English test minimums as bachelor level for English-taught programmes; some fields, including Psychology, ask for a higher IELTS of 6.5.
• A qualification interview or written exam for some programmes.
