Admission at a glance
The University of Siena admits international students through its own apply.unisi.it portal, described step by step on the university's International Admissions information site. Each application costs a non-refundable EUR 40, regardless of the outcome, and applicants may submit more than one application if they wish to be considered for more than one programme. Tuition for non-EU applicants is calculated by country of origin and by the study area of the chosen programme, up to a published ceiling of EUR 2,500 a year; the second instalment is further adjusted by the applicant's family income where documentation is provided, and the university publishes an online simulator so applicants can calculate an indicative figure for their own situation. Once an applicant is approved, the university issues a Letter of Eligibility for Enrolment, which supports both pre-enrolment at Siena and, for non-EU applicants who need one, the visa application submitted through the Ministry's Universitaly portal; the visa process itself only begins after this letter is issued. Non-EU applicants who do not need a visa, because they already hold an eligible residence permit, apply on a separate, earlier-opening track. English-taught programmes require a minimum B2-level certificate; the university accepts a range of recognised certifications and, for applicants without one, offers its own paid English proficiency interview rather than setting a single IELTS or TOEFL score. Italian-taught programmes ask only for A2-level English.
