University of Mannheim Admission 2027: Deadlines, Requirements, Fees for International Students

Admission at a glance

The University of Mannheim is a public university housed in a baroque palace in the city centre, known especially for business administration, economics, political science and psychology. As a Baden-Württemberg institution, it has charged international students from outside the EU or EEA a tuition fee of EUR 1,500 a semester since the 2017/18 academic year, in addition to the standard semester contribution that all students pay; students who obtained their Abitur or an equivalent qualification in Germany, who have five years of German residence and employment, or who fall into several other defined categories, are exempt from the fee. The university follows its own academic calendar of a Herbst/Wintersemester (autumn/winter semester) starting in September and a Frühjahrs/Sommersemester (spring/summer semester) starting in February, rather than the October and April dates common elsewhere in Germany. Applications for the main autumn semester generally open on 1 April, with closing dates that vary by programme: many competitive master's programmes close in mid May, language and law programmes close 31 May, and other humanities and education programmes close 15 July. English requirements also vary by programme: the university's standard figure for most master's programmes is TOEFL iBT 90 or IELTS 6.5, with lower thresholds for quantitative programmes such as Data Science and higher thresholds for management programmes such as the Mannheim Master in Management.

Requirements

Bachelor's

Applicants need a higher education entrance qualification recognised as equivalent to the German Abitur. Most bachelor's programmes are taught in German and require a German language certificate.

Master's

Applicants need a relevant bachelor's degree. English-taught master's programmes ask for an English certificate; the university states TOEFL iBT 90 or IELTS 6.5 as its standard requirement for most master's programmes, with lower requirements around TOEFL 72 or IELTS 6.0 for some quantitative programmes such as Data Science and Economics, and higher requirements around TOEFL 100 or IELTS 7.0 for programmes such as the Mannheim Master in Management.
