University of Mannheim Admission Requirements 2027 for International Students

The University of Mannheim is a public university known for business, economics and social science, housed in a former baroque palace. As a Baden-Württemberg university it charges non-EU students a tuition fee of EUR 1,500 a semester in addition to the usual semester contribution.

Requirements

Bachelor's

Applicants need a higher education entrance qualification recognised as equivalent to the German Abitur. Most bachelor's programmes are taught in German and require a German language certificate.

Master's

Applicants need a relevant bachelor's degree. English-taught master's programmes ask for an English certificate; the university states TOEFL iBT 90 or IELTS 6.5 as its standard requirement for most master's programmes, with lower requirements around TOEFL 72 or IELTS 6.0 for some quantitative programmes such as Data Science and Economics, and higher requirements around TOEFL 100 or IELTS 7.0 for programmes such as the Mannheim Master in Management.

Documents

Certified copies of school and university certificates and transcripts; a certified translation if the originals are not in German or English; proof of German or English language proficiency depending on the programme, valid within two to five years depending on the test and programme; and confirmation of health insurance before enrolment. Non-EU applicants also confirm whether the Baden-Württemberg tuition fee or an exemption applies to them.

How to apply

Choose a bachelor's or master's programme and check its own language requirement and deadline, since these vary by subject.
Submit your application inside the stated window; non-EU master's applicants for the main autumn (Herbst/Winter) semester generally apply between 1 April and a programme-specific date in May or July.
Upload certified copies of your certificates, transcripts and language certificate.
If admitted, confirm whether you must pay the EUR 1,500 non-EU tuition fee, arrange health insurance, and apply for a student visa if coming from outside the EU or EEA.
Pay the semester contribution and, if applicable, the tuition fee before the enrolment deadline.

English test waiver

Some quantitative programmes such as Data Science, Business Informatics and Economics accept a lower TOEFL iBT 72 or IELTS 6.0, while the Mannheim Master in Management and related management programmes ask for a higher TOEFL iBT 100 or IELTS 7.0.
