Admission at a glance

The University of Gothenburg admits bachelor's and master's students through universityadmissions.se, the national portal used across Sweden. Applicants who are not citizens of the EU, EEA or Switzerland use the international round for autumn entry, opening 16 October 2026 and closing 15 January 2027, with documents and the SEK 900 application fee due 1 February 2027 and results published 1 April 2027 for master's programmes. The university's own tuition fees page confirms the SEK 900 application fee directly and states that the tuition amount varies by course or program rather than following one university wide figure. Six two year master's programme pages checked directly in September 2026, across four faculties, range from SEK 192,000 total for the International Administration and Global Governance MSc, the Strategic Human Resource Management and Labour Relations MSc, the Psychological Science MSc and the International Business and Trade MSc, to SEK 298,000 total for the International Master's Programme in Information Technology and Learning, with the Computer Science MSc at SEK 290,000.

Gothenburg teaches a wide range of subjects in English at master's level and a smaller number of bachelor's programs, including business, international relations and several programs in the sciences and engineering. Admission is based on documented academic merit against the requirements published for each program.

Admitted non-EU/EEA students pay their first tuition installment ahead of the semester, with a payment deadline the university's own page confirms as 1 May for newly admitted autumn students, then apply for a residence permit for studies through Migrationsverket. The University of Gothenburg funds its own scholarship, the Axel Adler Scholarship, covering part of the tuition fee for a share of admitted fee paying master's applicants.

Requirements

Bachelor

A completed upper secondary education equivalent to Swedish gymnasium, with subject specific prerequisites set by each program. English proficiency equivalent to English 6.

Master

A bachelor's degree, normally at least 180 ECTS credits, in a relevant field, with prerequisites set by each program. English proficiency equivalent to English 6, generally IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no section below 5.5, or TOEFL iBT total 90 with at least 20 in writing.
