Admission at a glance
Bergen admits international master's applicants once a year and allows exactly one programme per applicant, so the choice is made at the point of applying and cannot be changed afterwards. The application portal opens on 1 November and closes on 1 December, and a further documentation deadline follows on 15 December, two weeks after applications close. Every admitted applicant in this route pays tuition unless an exemption applies. An applicant with citizenship from outside the EU and the EEA who is living outside Norway also has to document funds covering both living costs and the tuition itself; the bank statement may be in any currency, and a signed sponsor letter in any format is accepted in its place provided it commits to covering living costs, tuition or both. An applicant who believes they are exempt from tuition has to name the exemption category and upload the supporting documents with the application rather than afterwards. After the deadline to accept an offer has passed, Bergen tells admitted students when the money has to reach the student deposit account, and the letter of acceptance, which is what a study permit application needs, is issued only once that transfer is confirmed. Student housing has its own separate deadline of 15 May. The Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design runs different application deadlines from the rest of the university.
