TU Wien Admission 2027: Deadlines, Fees, Requirements

Admission at a glance

TU Wien admits non-EU/EEA applicants through an application window that runs well ahead of the semester: for winter semester 2026/27 it ran from 16 January to 15 July 2026, with in-person enrolment possible until 31 October 2026. For summer semester 2027 the window runs from 16 July 2026 to 15 January 2027, with enrolment until 31 March 2027. Applicants with a non-Austrian school leaving certificate must show it gives access to all sectors of higher education in the country where it was issued; a certificate that only grants access to part of the higher education system, such as Germany's Fachhochschulreife, is not accepted for bachelor's admission under any circumstances. TU Wien may also require supplementary exams in mathematics, chemistry, physics or German where an applicant's prior schooling differs substantially from the Austrian pattern, including where total schooling runs under 12 years. All documents issued outside Austria need legalisation, and anything not already in German or English needs an official translation that stays attached to the original, including translation of any certification stamps. English-taught master's programmes ask for English at CEFR B2: IELTS 6.5 overall or TOEFL iBT 87, both valid for two years from issue, or an equivalent Cambridge certificate. No official page found during this research states an application fee for general (non entrance-exam) admission.

Requirements

Bachelor

A school leaving certificate that gives access to all sectors of higher education in the country where it was issued; a certificate that only grants access to part of the system, such as a Fachhochschulreife, is not accepted. TU Wien checks schooling length (minimum 12 years) and subject coverage, and may require supplementary exams in mathematics, chemistry, physics or German. Programmes taught in English need English at B2 level.

Master

A completed bachelor's degree recognised as giving access to a master's programme in the field; a nostrification or appraisal step applies where the prior degree needs formal equivalence checking. English-taught programmes need English at B2 (IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 87).

PhD

A completed master's degree or equivalent and admission to a doctoral programme; a supervisor agreement is normally needed before applying.
