University of Salzburg Admission 2027 for International Students

Admission at a glance

Non-EU/EEA applicants to the University of Salzburg must submit a complete application earlier than EU/EEA citizens: by 10 August for winter semester entry and by 10 January for summer semester entry, for both bachelor's and master's programmes. For summer semester 2027 entry the non-EU deadline is 10 January 2027; for winter semester 2026/27 it was 10 August 2026, already past. EU/EEA citizens apply for bachelor's programmes to 5 September (winter) or 5 February (summer), extendable to 31 October or 31 March, and for master's and doctoral programmes to 31 October (winter) or 31 March (summer). Document legalisation depends on the applicant's country: Hague Apostille for convention countries, no legalisation for hard-copy originals from a listed group of European treaty countries including Germany, France, Italy, Poland and several Balkan states, and full diplomatic legalisation through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and an Austrian embassy or consulate for every other country. Documents not in German must be translated by a sworn translator into German, except documents already in English, which need no translation. Programmes taught in German need German at A2 to start studies directly; English-taught master's programmes ask for an accredited English certificate, commonly cited at C1 level (IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 95) on the programme pages checked. No official page found during this research states an application fee for admission, and none states admission is free either.

Requirements

Bachelor and diploma

General university entrance qualification, legalised according to the applicant's country (Apostille, treaty-country exemption for hard-copy originals, or full diplomatic legalisation). Sworn translation into German for documents not already in German or English. German-taught programmes (most bachelor's programmes) need German A2 to start directly.

Master

A completed bachelor's degree recognised as giving entry to the field. Non-EU/EEA applicants apply earlier than EU/EEA citizens, by 10 August for winter or 10 January for summer entry. English-taught master's programmes ask for an accredited English certificate, commonly C1 level on the programmes checked.

PhD

A completed master's degree or equivalent and admission to a doctoral programme, following the same document legalisation and translation rules as other levels.
