Requirements

Bachelor and diploma

General university entrance qualification, legalised according to the applicant's country (Apostille, treaty-country exemption for hard-copy originals, or full diplomatic legalisation). Sworn translation into German for documents not already in German or English. German-taught programmes (most bachelor's programmes) need German A2 to start directly.

Master

A completed bachelor's degree recognised as giving entry to the field. Non-EU/EEA applicants apply earlier than EU/EEA citizens, by 10 August for winter or 10 January for summer entry. English-taught master's programmes ask for an accredited English certificate, commonly C1 level on the programmes checked.

PhD

A completed master's degree or equivalent and admission to a doctoral programme, following the same document legalisation and translation rules as other levels.

Documents

School leaving certificate or prior degree certificate, legalised according to the issuing country's category (Apostille, exempted treaty country, or full diplomatic legalisation). Sworn German translation for documents not already in German or English. Accredited language certificate matching the programme's language of instruction. Passport copy.

How to apply

1. Confirm your programme's language of instruction and gather your qualification documents.
2. Legalise your documents according to your country's category and arrange a sworn German translation if needed.
3. Apply online by the non-EU/EEA deadline (10 August for winter entry, 10 January for summer entry) if you are a third-country national, or the later EU/EEA deadline if you qualify for it.
4. Submit your language certificate matching the programme.
5. Wait for the admission decision; processing can take up to a few months, so apply as early as possible.
6. Complete enrolment, paying the tuition fee where it applies and the ÖH union fee each semester.

English test waiver

The figures used here (IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 95) come from official plus.ac.at master's programme pages describing their English requirement as C1 level; the university's general admission and FAQ pages describe the language requirement only in general terms and reference a separate accepted-certificates document this research did not reach, so treat this as a representative programme-level figure rather than a confirmed single institutional minimum.
