Admission at a glance

Montanuniversitat Leoben sets separate application windows for third-country applicants and EU/EEA/Swiss citizens. For winter semester 2026/27, third-country applicants applied from 23 February to 30 April 2026, ahead of the EU/EEA/Swiss regular deadline of 1 March to 5 September 2026 (late applications to 31 October 2026). For summer semester 2027, third-country applicants apply from 1 September to 30 November 2026, ahead of the EU/EEA/Swiss regular deadline of 1 November 2026 to 5 February 2027 (late applications to 31 March 2027). Master's applications submitted after 30 September (winter) or 28 February (summer) cannot be guaranteed a timely start of studies, and doctoral applications are accepted year round. Language proficiency for degree programme admission is a general minimum of B2 CEFR, with English-taught master's programmes accepting IELTS Academic 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80 (or 4 on the new scale from 21 January 2026), PTE 59, Duolingo English Test 110, or Cambridge FCE/CAE at grade C/160 points; joint programmes with partner universities can set stricter requirements. Non-EU/third-country students pay tuition of EUR 726.72 a semester plus the ÖH union fee of EUR 26.20. As at other Austrian public universities, admission generally requires a qualification that gives access to higher education in the country where it was issued, though this research did not find that rule restated on Leoben's own admission pages specifically. No official page found during this research states an application fee for admission.

Requirements

Bachelor

A general university entrance qualification giving access to higher education in the country where it was issued. Language proficiency at a general minimum of B2 CEFR; German-taught programmes need German, English-taught programmes and joint programmes need English (IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80, PTE 59, or Duolingo 110), with joint programmes potentially setting stricter requirements.

Master

A completed bachelor's degree recognised as giving entry to the field. English-taught master's programmes need English at the same B2 general minimum (IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80, PTE 59, Duolingo 110). Applications after 30 September (winter) or 28 February (summer) risk missing a timely start.

PhD

A completed master's degree or equivalent and admission to a doctoral programme; doctoral applications are accepted throughout the year.
