The University of Vienna and TU Wien charge exactly the same tuition, because neither sets it. Austria fixes the rate nationally, so non EU students at both pay EUR 726.72 a semester, plus the students union fee of EUR 26.20. What differs is what they teach and how hard the English bar sits. The University of Vienna, founded in 1365, is a broad research university across the humanities, sciences, law and social sciences, and asks for TOEFL 94. TU Wien, founded in 1815, teaches engineering, informatics, architecture and the natural sciences, and asks for TOEFL 87. Both accept IELTS 6.5, and both waive the test entirely for an applicant whose previous degree or school leaving certificate was taught in English, though the University of Vienna limits that to programmes of at least two years in a named list of countries. Deadlines for the summer 2027 semester fall eight days apart, 7 January at the University of Vienna and 15 January at TU Wien. A student choosing between them is choosing subject range against a technical focus, not cost.
