Admission at a glance

RWTH Aachen University is a public technical university best known for engineering, natural sciences and medicine, and is one of the largest universities in Germany by enrolment. As of this review, RWTH charges no tuition fee to international students from outside the EU, a position it has held even as neighbouring states introduced non-EU fees; the university has stated that discussions are under way with the state ministry about a possible future fee for non-EU students, provisionally estimated at EUR 3,000 to EUR 5,000 a semester, but this has not been introduced and RWTH has said any change would not affect students already enrolled. All students, regardless of nationality, pay a semester contribution covering student services, administration and a transport ticket.

For Master's programmes, non-EU and EU/EEA applicants share the same 15 July final deadline for the winter semester on programmes with a restricted number of places. Open-admission programmes instead close earlier for non-EU applicants, on 1 March, to leave time for the visa process, while EU/EEA applicants to the same open-admission programmes have longer. Applications are submitted through RWTH's own online portal.
