Requirements
Bachelor's
A higher education entrance qualification recognised as equivalent to the Abitur is required, assessed case by case for applicants from outside Germany.
Master's
A relevant Bachelor's degree is required. Programmes with a restricted number of places rank applicants against published criteria; open-admission programmes admit every applicant who meets the requirements and applies in time.
Documents
Certified copies of school and degree certificates and transcripts; a language certificate meeting the programme's required level; a CV; and, for some programmes, a letter of motivation or references. RWTH's online application portal lists the exact document set for each programme.
How to apply
- Choose a programme and check whether it has a restricted or open number of places, since the non-EU deadline differs between the two.
- Prepare certified copies of your qualifications and a language certificate meeting the required level.
- Apply through RWTH's own online application portal by the relevant deadline: 1 March for open-admission programmes if you are a non-EU applicant, or 15 July for restricted-admission programmes.
- If admitted, arrange health insurance, apply for a student visa if coming from outside the EU/EEA, and pay the semester contribution.
- Enrol and register your address in Aachen.
English test waiver
RWTH's general requirement is B2-level English, met by TOEFL iBT 90 or IELTS 6.0. Programmes taught at a more advanced level ask for C1, met by TOEFL iBT 100 or IELTS 7.0. Certificates must be no more than two years old at the October start, and RWTH does not accept TOEFL MyBest scores.
