Admission at a glance

Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy admits non-EU ("third country") applicants to its integrated bachelor's-level programmes through a dedicated International Students Department admission track, separate from the Romanian national baccalaureate-based route used by domestic and EU applicants who sit the standard competition. Admission is by evaluation of documents attesting school performance and personal achievements, not by a written entrance exam. Non-EU citizens can apply to Medicine taught in English or Romanian, Dental Medicine taught in English, Pharmacy taught in French, and Nursing taught in English (Medicine in French is open to EU/EEA/Swiss applicants only, and Dental Medicine in French is likewise restricted to those groups). Medicine in English is also offered at an extension location in Novara, Italy, which as of 2026 was provisionally authorised by Romania's Ministry of Education.

Applicants must hold an accredited high school diploma recognised by the Romanian Ministry of Education, a passport valid at least six months, and, for English or French-taught programmes, a CEFR B2 language certificate unless their prior schooling or baccalaureate exam already proves that level. All non-EU applicants submit their file through the university's online admission platform: they create an account, upload the required documents, pay a non-refundable processing fee, and submit the file within the announced session dates. Non-EU applicants also need a Letter of Acceptance from Romania's Ministry of Education, which the university's International Students Department helps obtain, before they can apply for a Type D national student visa at a Romanian embassy. Admission runs in two scheduled sessions per cycle, with the university stating it has, in some years, opened a further short extension window for a subset of programmes after the second session closed.

Requirements

Bachelor (integrated Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing programmes)

• Completion of an accredited high school in the country of origin, with a diploma that both permits access to university study in that country and is recognised by the Romanian Ministry of Education (see the university's Annex 5 list of recognised diplomas).
• Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of application (a national ID card copy is not accepted).
• For English or French-taught programmes: a CEFR B2 language certificate from an accredited institution, unless secondary school was completed fully in that language or B2 was achieved in the baccalaureate exam.
• For the Romanian-taught Medicine track (non-EU only): a diploma from a Romanian-language preparatory year, at least 4 consecutive years of schooling in Romanian, or a B2 Romanian-language certificate from a recognised issuer.
• A completed application file submitted only through the university's online admission platform within the announced session dates; files sent by post, courier or email are not accepted.
• Payment of the non-refundable application processing fee.
