Admission at a glance

The Indian Institute of Science admits international students through its Office of International Relations. For the August 2026 session, applications to master's course programmes (M.Tech, M.Des, M.Mgt and M.Sc) and to research programmes (M.Tech Research and PhD) opened on 11 February 2026 and closed on 23 March 2026, and admission for the 2026-2027 year is now closed; dates for 2027 have not been published. Applications from international students carry no application fee. International applicants to course programmes need TOEFL iBT 80 or IELTS 5.5, waived when English was the medium of instruction from class 11, while test scores are preferred but not mandatory for research programmes. Foreign nationals pay the General category fee structure in Indian rupees; first-year totals, including refundable deposits, are INR 35,800 for the M.Tech and M.Des, INR 40,800 for the PhD, INR 1,00,800 for the BS (Research) and INR 2,20,800 for the B.Tech, rising 5% a year. International students admitted to M.Tech course programmes receive a stipend of INR 12,400 a month, and PhD students INR 37,000 a month for the first two years and INR 42,000 from the third year.
