Indian Institute of Science Admission Requirements 2027

The Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru came into existence on 27 May 1909 and had 5,678 students on its rolls as of 31 January 2026. Foreign nationals pay the same fees as General category students, such as a first-year total of INR 40,800 for the PhD and INR 2,20,800 for the B.Tech, and international applicants pay no application fee. Admitted master's and PhD students, including international students, receive monthly stipends.

English test waiver

For international applicants to IISc's course programmes, the minimum TOEFL internet-based score is 80 and the IELTS score 5.5; TOEFL or IELTS can be waived when English has been the medium of instruction from class 11 onwards, and the bachelor's degree should have been taught in English. For research programmes, TOEFL or IELTS results are not mandatory but preferred.
