Ghent University runs a simple, fixed calendar that does not change from year to year. Applicants who need a visa can start an online application from October and must submit it before 1 April; applicants who do not need a visa have from October until before 1 June, and so do current Ghent students applying for a new programme. Ghent says the file must be complete by the deadline and that a file still missing documents after the deadline will not be considered, and it takes on average around three months after a complete application to give a result, which is why the visa deadline comes two months earlier. There is no application fee, although legalisation, language tests and GRE or GMAT scores cost money. International students should expect to study at master's level: all bachelor's programmes Ghent offers in Ghent are taught in Dutch, the English Bachelor of Social Sciences is applied for at VUB, and Ghent's three English bachelor's degrees in engineering and biotechnology are taught at its Global Campus in Songdo, South Korea, with fees in Korean won. Most English-taught masters require English at CEFR B2, which Ghent sets at IELTS 6.0 overall, with some programmes asking for more. The deadlines page carries no year, so applicants should confirm the dates for their intake before relying on them.
