Cost of Studying in Belgium (2027) for International Students

Belgium's universities charge students from outside the European Economic Area a higher, but still modest, fee: in 2026-27 a year of a master's programme costs from EUR 2,297.40 in Ghent's arts, law and psychology faculties to EUR 9,493.92 for most KU Leuven science and engineering masters, against EUR 1,181.40 for Belgian and EEA students in Flanders. Deadlines fall early, most on 1 March or 1 April for applicants who need a visa, because the Immigration Office takes up to 90 days to decide.

Tuition is charged per academic year and in Flanders it is built from a fixed amount plus an amount per credit, so the figures below are for a standard 60-credit year in 2026-27.

Belgian and EEA students in Flanders pay EUR 1,181.40 a year at KU Leuven, Ghent, Antwerp and VUB.

Non-EEA students pay a rate each university sets. The University of Antwerp charges EUR 4,300 for a bachelor's year and EUR 7,800 for a master's year, with Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy at EUR 5,700. VUB charges EUR 4,800 to EUR 5,720 for its English-taught bachelor's degrees and EUR 2,500 to EUR 5,720 for its masters. Ghent charges EUR 2,297.40 in the faculties of Arts and Philosophy, Law and Criminology and Psychology and Educational Sciences, and EUR 7,079.40 in its other faculties. KU Leuven charges EUR 3,093.12 to EUR 9,493.92, with 47 of its 68 priced master's programmes at the top rate. At UCLouvain, in the French-speaking Community, most non-EU students pay EUR 5,369, a EUR 1,194 full fee plus a EUR 4,175 supplementary contribution. A few specialised programmes cost far more, such as Antwerp's advanced Master of Maritime and Air Transport Management at EUR 19,500.

Living costs. The Immigration Office sets the money a student must prove at EUR 1,062 net a month for 2026-27, or EUR 12,744 for twelve months when shown through a blocked account. The University of Antwerp estimates the cost of living in Belgium at around EUR 16,000 a year.

Visa costs. A study visa D costs EUR 250 at a Belgian consulate from 1 July 2026, and the Immigration Office separately charges a contribution fee of EUR 251 for a student at a public higher education institution. Neither is refunded if the application is refused, and scholarship holders under recognised schemes are exempt from both.
