Admission at a glance
ANU assesses international undergraduate applicants by converting their secondary qualification, or completed year of an accepted bachelor degree, into an ANU Selection Rank out of 99.95, which determines eligibility for specific programs. Applicants submit one online application, listing up to three programs, and pay a non-refundable application fee. Most applications are assessed within about ten business days and result in one of four outcomes: an offer, an incomplete application requiring more documents, ineligibility for ANU generally, or ineligibility for the specific programs chosen. English language proficiency is assessed alongside academic eligibility, commonly at IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0; the university accepts IELTS, PTE Academic and TOEFL among other tests. Before an enrolment is confirmed, international applicants must separately satisfy the Genuine Student requirement, which can involve financial documentation or a personal statement, in the same way this is assessed for the student visa. ANU publishes its international undergraduate application closing dates well ahead of each semester: for the 2027 academic year, Semester 1 (starting in February) closes on 15 December 2026 and Semester 2 (starting in July) closes on 15 May 2027, though the Crawford School of Public Policy and some other programs close earlier. Tuition fees are set per course on the university's Programs and Courses site and are indexed annually; ANU's own Schedule of Tuition Fees groups every course into one of six international fee bands, and for a standard full-time undergraduate load of 48 units a year (1 EFTSL) the 2026 published band rates run from AUD 46,680 (band 1, for example Creative Arts or Education) to AUD 62,440 (band 6, Medical Science), excluding the separately priced Doctor of Medicine and Surgery.
